Zionism Endangers U.S. Jews Because ...

Text about Israeli religious discrimination against Jews.

Its Government Completely Favors One Sect of Jews

In Israel if you're a Jew, but not Orthodox or Nationalist Ultra-Orthodox you face religious discrimination.  Going back to Israel's start the Orthodox were given control of "family life" and this has morphed into control or key influence over marriage, burials, divorce, who can pray at the Western Wall, conversion, "Who is a Jew" and on and on.  Israel has "Chief Rabbis" in various towns and over all of Israel and they matter.

With the new government elected in Nov. 2022 things are getting even worse.   Gays and trans are expected to be new targets.

In the United States only 10% of Jews consider themselves Orthodox.  There are no "Chief Rabbis".  In Israel the Orthodox are a bit more numerous proportionally.  Yet 35% of Israeli Jews consider themselves "totally secular".  Still, the Orthodox and Nationalist Ultra-Orthodox  rule the roost.  Since its beginnings Israel state has discriminated against religious views of the majority Jews.  If these things were done against Jews in the U.S. or  Europe it would be called "antisemitism".

Rabbi Gilad Kariv on  the Tycoons of Religion - interviwed by Ayelett Shani

from 2012

“At the synagogue here upstairs, one of the walls is decorated with the verse from Micha 'Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your Lord'” ... In other words, the most meaningful outward expression of our Jewish life should be in doing justice and acts of kindness." [not constant ritual and endless hairsplitting]

A Rabbi’s Contentious Quest for Religious Pluralism in Israel

There is more than one way to be Jewish, says Gilad Kariv, the first Reform rabbi in Israel’s Parliament. The idea poses a challenge to the country’s Orthodox establishment.

"As a lawmaker with parliamentary immunity, Rabbi Kariv can bring them the Torah under police protection. But dozens of ultra-Orthodox opponents typically stand in his way to prevent the handover. They shout abuse and sometimes they try to rip the scroll from his hands."
